Small Business Week In Eastern PEI
Workshop on the Use of Artificial Intelligence
We’re constantly told that we need to use artificial intelligence tools or we risk falling behind the competition. However, there are so many tools and so much advice coming from all sides that it’s hard to know where to turn. To help business owners better understand this issue and use these tools effectively and responsibly, the Wellington Rural Action Center, supported by the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI, is organizing two interactive webinars, each lasting 60 minutes, on Monday, October 19, and Wednesday, October 21, starting at 9 a.m. each morning. The theme will be “Optimizing the Use of Artificial Intelligence Applications.” These two free workshops will be offered during Small and Medium-Sized Business Week; the second is part of the Island Chambers of Commerce’s provincial “Webinar Wednesday” campaign. Jacinthe Lemire, a consultant in community development and project management, and Daryl Loader, a consultant in artificial intelligence architecture and the ethical adoption of AI, will lead these webinars. “This intermediate-level training is designed for staff at community organizations and businesses who already use, at least occasionally, applications such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, or Claude, and who wish to deepen their knowledge, discover new tools, and better integrate […]

As part of Small Business Week, Innovation PEI is excited to host a Lunch and Learn presented by Coltin Handrahan - Own Your Stack: AI-Built Software for Small Business! Join us on Tuesday, October 20th, 12pm | Mill River Resort. Free registration. Seating is limited. Event Description: Coltin Handrahan founded Stay Golden Custom in his senior year of high school and over the past 14 years has grown it into a custom apparel company with business clients from coast to coast and their production still taking place in rural Hunter River. For 14 years he ran the company as a non-technical founder, paying for off-the-shelf software that never quite fit how their business worked. Last December, that changed. Leveraging AI-powered tools, Coltin began building his own custom coded apps: quoting, production, and sales tools designed around exactly how his team works. The results reshaped his business, and the approach is within reach of any owner, no coding background required. This lunch and learn covers the real story: what he built, what it changed, and the specific tactics an Island business can use to leverage this technology and compete on the national stage. Practical, direct, and built for small business owners. […]

Small Business Week Keynote: The Business of Tourism — Why It Matters to All of Us Tourism doesn't just fill hotel rooms and restaurant tables — it drives momentum across Prince Edward Island's entire business community. From contractors to retailers to service providers, when tourism thrives, opportunity spreads across the whole Island economy. Join the Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce for a Small Business Week keynote featuring Corryn Clemence, CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island (TIAPEI). Corryn will share: How tourism anchors a season of growth and opportunity across the broader business ecosystem How PEI's tourism sector compares to other jurisdictions, historically and today What's ahead for shoulder season expansion and extending the visitor season beyond peak summer Why tourism success lifts every kind of business on the Island, not just those directly in the industry Whether you run a tourism-facing business or simply want to understand the how the industry is evolving and how your business might benefit, this is a conversation worth being in the room for. Following the presentation, attendees are invited to network and connect directly with the guest speaker. A valuable opportunity to dig deeper into the morning's insights.
