PEI Internet Service Providers

Internet connectivity has become a staple in almost every home in Canada for everything from homework, online shopping and streaming services such as Netflix to supporting businesses requiring internet access for services. There are challenges to getting high-speed internet to every home due to remote locations and the high cost of getting cable and fiber lines across long distances and difficult terrain to sparsely populated areas.

"Access to the latest technology is critical to the success of residents and businesses throughout Prince Edward Island. Higher-speed Internet service across our province will support efforts to build for sustained prosperity."

‎ – The Honourable Heath MacDonald, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, Prince Edward Island

The good news is, there are companies right here in Prince Edward Island working towards making high-speed internet available to everyone and they’re doing so on their own without support from government.  They have taken the initiative and determination to provide service across the island.  Most notably are changes to Air Tech Communications, based in Richmond, PEI.  They have been providing high-speed internet services to residents and businesses in Prince County since 2003 and are set to expand to West Prince, starting in Tyne Valley, Ellerslie, and the Freeland area.

Other companies are following suit, such as Route 2 and Wicked Eh! who is extending their reach further east.  Xplornet which offers direct-to-home satellite service is receiving up to $1.6 million from the Government of Canada to increase broadband internet access for more than 12,000 households in communities throughout Prince Edward Island.

With new options available, it’s only a matter of time before the majority of homes in Prince Edward Island will have access to high-speed internet.
